1. Writing

Writing is therapy and relaxation for me, and when my thoughts flow gracefully through words, I’m fulfilled. It’s knowing that I can use my writing to connect with others through the internet, some of whom I might not meet if not for my writing, and the fact that I can use it to make a difference, that truly inspires me.

2. Candid photographs

When my family used to travel together for holidays, my dad was the designated photographer. He isn’t the greatest photographer, and somehow always ended up taking very random, candid shots – like a picture of me laughing so hard you could see down my throat, or a snapshot of my siblings stuffing themselves with food like gluttons. Although these candid photographs don’t make the best Facebook profile images, they manage to capture the moment, and looking at the pictures, you’re transported back to the time when they was taken – just like a time capsule.

3. Sunsets by the beach

I am captivated by incredible sunsets, particularly when I’m sitting on the sand, the salty sea breeze in my hair. I love watching the sun disappear minute by minute into the horizon, as if it were taking a bow on stage before the curtains fall. Sometimes I try to capture the stunning natural beauty with my camera, but have learnt over and over again that rarely does a picture come close to the real deal. Sunsets have been the subject of a couple of my paintings and they enchanting majesty amazes me no end.

4. Seeing an old couple holding hands

Whenever I see an old couple being affectionate with each other, giving little kisses and holding hands, I feel a sense of comfort – in knowing that love has gone beyond just pretty faces and youth. I am thrilled to see an example of love that lasts, and proof that it is possible to be in love, and to love a person, for the rest of your life.

5. Long-distance phone calls from friends and family

I live across the globe in Argentina, while my family and friends are mostly a 30-hour flight away in Singapore, where I was born. Even after three years of being away from home, I still miss hearing their voices, reminding me that we’re not really that far apart, and that I’m still in their thoughts.

After relocating from Singapore to far-flung South America for love, Felicia has made a life in beautiful Buenos Aires, a city whose grand history is still evident in its European-style architecture, and whose culture throbs with night life.
