The Loveliest Things – Sarah McCarten
1. Losing track of time
Whether it’s conversing with friends, walking through London, writing, or spending time alone, one of my loveliest things is to be so immersed in my activity that I lose track of the time.
2. Best friends
I could tell you all the things that are great about my best friend, instead I’ll tell you about all the things that are great about having a best friend. There’s something special about having one person you can rely on – someone to tell you when you’re being ridiculous, who you can tell your deepest secrets, and who will tell you the truth about who you are.
3. Deep conversations
I love talking, but mostly I love talking about theology. In our faith there are very few fundamentals and a lot of negotiables and I love taking about those things. I chose the word conversations instead of debates because sometimes the subject of theology can become divisive. I love hearing people and their passions, not squabbling with them.
I love them. I take them to the cinema, I keep one in my car, I have one that I take one on the train, I have a ton of them on my bed. The thing that I love is that you can take them anywhere, and for a girl who’s moved around as often as I have recently, they can make any place feel like home.
5. Drinking tea
There is something to be said for a great cup of tea. I’m English so it’s part of my heritage, but sitting down with someone over a pot of tea is a wonderful thing. It’s just the right amount of time to get to know someone a little, or to have a quick natter with someone who you know well. For longer conversations, I’d recommend a bottle of wine.
